Manus is a general-purpose autonomous AI agent that executes complex, multi-step tasks from a single plain-language instruction. Where most AI assistants respond and wait for the next prompt, Manus plans the work, takes action, monitors its own progress, and delivers a finished output, all without requiring the user to intervene at every step. The platform was developed by Butterfly Effect, the team behind Monica.im, and was later acquired by Meta.

The core capability is what the platform calls Agent Mode. A 50-second research run on a topic like market trends can produce a fully formatted document, complete with sources, ready to edit. The output is delivered as a file rather than a chat reply, which is a practical distinction for professional use.

Manus can generate complete websites and deploy them directly from a prompt. Functional pages with layouts, logic, and databases can go live without the user writing any code. The platform also includes slide generation with structured layouts built around research rather than templates, and a Mail Manus feature that manages email-related tasks autonomously.

A long-term memory system stores preferences, past task outputs, and user-specific patterns across sessions. This means Manus gradually adapts to how you work, reducing the need to re-explain context with each new request. The agent retains episodic records, how-to scripts, and user preferences as persistent files that inform future tasks.

The platform runs entirely in the cloud, which means tasks continue running even after you close the browser. When a task finishes, Manus sends a notification with the results. Concurrent task execution is available on paid plans, allowing multiple workflows to run in parallel.

Manus operates on a credit-based subscription model where every agent action (browsing, file writing, code execution, etc.) consumes credits proportional to the complexity of the task. All plans include 300 daily refresh credits that reset every 24 hours, on top of the monthly pool. Annual billing saves 17% across all paid plans. Additional credits can be purchased as non-expiring add-ons.
